Abba Our Father

In Romans chapter 8, we read:
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:15-16)

There are so many people in our world living in fear right now. For those of us who know Christ as our Savior this should not be the case. Fear is to have no power over us! Never should we to be a slave to it! Yes, we are living in trying times, but consider this: We are not going to die one second before He permits us to, and if He permits it nothing can stop it. Hebrews 9:27 tells us that our death is appointed by God. Only Christ holds the keys to death (Revelation 1:18).

When a person is born again, that person is not born as a slave but as a son or daughter. We are brought into the household of God and have a position of being a child of the King! So much so that we call Him “Abba” which is Hebrew for “Father”.

When we truly grasp the fact that we are beloved children of God, bought by the precious blood of Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:19), fear should not control us and our lives should show that we trust in God! We are to live our lives in a confident and humble manner. Confident, because we know who we are in Christ: we are God’s child (Hebrews 4:16). And humble because we know that there is nothing that we did to earn salvation. It is the free gift of God given to us in mercy and grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The Holy Spirit testifies to our spirit that we are indeed God’s children! It is hard to explain to an unsaved person how this happens, but a person will simply know in their spirit that they are God’s child. The Spirit of God reveals this fact to their spirit! We have such an awesome Father!

Today, have you thanked God for opening your eyes to the truth of Christ and for making you His child through the redemption of Jesus’ shed blood on the Cross? We have so very much to be thankful for, brothers and sisters in Christ! We are no longer slaves to fear and sin, we are free in Christ! Free to live lives of righteousness through His Holy Spirit that we received upon salvation! Praise the Lord!

Thank You Father God for Your loving-kindness, mercy, and grace that You have so freely given to us Your children! We are fully aware that we do not deserve such love, but we are ever so thankful that You love us with a Father’s love. Our desire is to follow You all the days of our lives for we love You so very much Abba Father. We give You all honor, glory, and praise this day!  Amen.
